Futures Group worked with Marie Stopes Madagascar and UNFPA to implement a study on strengthening the role of the private sector in family planning, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The study included a market segmentation analysis, a review of the family planning policy environment, and interviews with key stakeholders. Futures Group worked with Marie Stopes and UNFPA on data analysis, development of advocacy materials, and provision of technical support for working group and advocacy meetings. We conducted the market segmentation analysis and review of the family planning policy environment and designed an advocacy presentation and brief targeted toward the Ministry of Health. The advocacy presentation was shared with the MOH and other stakeholders at a workshop in October 2010, where recommendations for encouraging greater private sector participation in Madagascar’s family planning market were discussed and agreed on. Based on these recommendations, the MOH plans to develop and implement an advocacy action plan.
