Futures Group  is implementing a new program awarded under the U.K. Department for International Development’s Global Reproductive Health Framework for Reducing Maternal and Child Mortality in South Africa through Strengthening Primary Health Care. The programsupports South Africa’s Campaign on Accelerated Reduction of Maternal and Child Mortality in Africa, and it aims to improve the quality of and access to reproductive, maternal and child health services in South Africa. The program is led by Futures Group partnership with Health Systems Trust in South Africa, Save the Children UK and Social Development Direct.

Key outputs include:

• Enabling districts to oversee improvement of reproductive, maternal and child health services;
• Strengthening delivery of school health, ward primary health care and obstetric and neonatal emergency services;
• Improving demand and accountability for health services; and
• Accumulating new knowledge to remove barriers to uptake and access of services.

This program directly contributes to the U.K. Department for International Development’s goal to save lives of women during pregnancy and childbirth. This will be achieved by providing more women with modern methods of family planning, preventing unintended pregnancies, and supporting safe deliveries.
